For all that celebrate Christmas…. I hope you are enjoying your holiday with your family!
cold.jpg

I am spending time with mine today and happy that my son (Anthony) is back from the hospital. About a week ago, we discovered that Anthony was having troubles breathing with a slight cough. Once we took him to the doctors they admitted him for pneumonia. Luckily my husband was on vacation and was able to spend time with him at the hospital.

Parents, I understand that raising a family isn’t easy. Having to be prepared for the unexpected, such as, when a child gets sick it can be difficult. I try to practice what I preach by having “backup” for my family as well.

We are in the flu season so please try to be prepared. I am happy to help in finding a babysitter when your child may be sick. At Sun Stars & Moon Daycare we try to protect your child from the many illnesses that may arise.

Now, on to welcome 2 more additions to the Sun Stars & Moon Daycare family, Imani and Landon. Imani is a precious little 2-year-old girl that we look forward to getting to know. Landon is a 3-year-old boy who has a ton of energy and already getting along great with all of the kids. Welcome aboard!!

Soon we will be having fun with arts and crafts surrounding the festivities of the New Year and Lunar New Year.

Please feel free to share your holiday family experiences. Hope to hear from you!

Always, Lisa

Guest Speaker

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Hi Parents,

This week we have a guest speaker. Her name is Julia Velazquez and she is my 25-year-old daughter that lives in Syracuse. Over the last 5 years, I have worked closely with her on many projects as she consults small businesses at M&T Bank. Below is a brief commentary of her advice.

“Hi everyone. I am excited that my mom allowed me to share my thoughts with you all. Although I don’t have any children and have never run a daycare I have watched my mother build her business over the past 10 years plus. First, I should start by explaining that I am a small business banker and work with businesses in several capacities. Starting, running and growing a business can be challenging. On top of all that having passion for what you do is important. There is no one that I know that loves children more than my mom. She is the storybook mother that wants all children to be warm, full and loved. I know from first hand experience that she cares for all of her daycare children with the utmost concern. She is always looking for innovative ways to provide the very best playful environment.” – Julia

Thanks Julia for your support. As Julia mentioned, we are always looking for the best. With that said, we have added a new assistant to the Sun, Stars & Moon Daycare Team. Please welcome Eric Brown. He has been with us for almost a week now and fitting in nicely.

Eric and I will be spending some time in the early mornings preparing for our review on Thursday. We will keep you updated.

I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season. Please feel free to ask any questions and share your stories. Until next time.

Yours truly,

Lisa Jones

Quality Child Care Wanted…and Fast!

Monday, December 8th, 2008

child-care.jpgAs a daycare provider that has been in business for over 10 years and raising 5 children of my own, I understand the need for quality care. Recently, I have had a few conversations surrounding babysitting services. By babysitter we are talking about specific situations where childcare is needed for a few hours at a time and not a routine occurrence. Outside of having a daycare that you can trust while knowing your child is getting the best care, what happens in those one-time instances?

Quality childcare is in short supply right now as holiday party invitations, dinners with the boss, and cocktail socials abound. ‘Tis the season, after all. But for most parents with young children, these events also create a special stress that comes with trying to make child care arrangements, and not having to worry all evening about their safety and welfare. I hope this site helps all of you that are searching for additional help. You can find tips to consider when choosing a babysitter.

As a protective mother I found it difficult to allow just anyone to care for my children. Often times, family or very close friends were the only outlets I felt comfortable with. I later realized that interviewing for a babysitter was very appropriate and needed. Don’t feel silly when it comes to your children: get references and ask questions.

Please feel free to share your experiences of finding a daycare or babysitter.

Shopping Season in Full Swing

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Happy Holidays,

hh.jpg

We are in full swing with the holiday season upon us and I am ready to shop! According to the local news this years Black Friday sales were up by 25% compared to last year. Hopefully that means in Upstate NY we are doing well.

I know many parents that went to get the good deals on toys and electronics. With 3 young children of my own and a grandson I am always looking for what’s new and innovative.

Every year we take great pride in decorating our home as well as our daycare. My husband spends hours putting together the best light show in town. He tries to out do himself every year! The children and I also decorate the daycare to celebrate each holiday for several cultures.

Most of the children celebrate Christmas, however, we also have kids that participate in Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. Therefore, many of our arts and crafts activities incorporate a variety of cultures.

Also, a bit of housekeeping: We are currently accepting applications for a full-time Daycare Assistant. We are sad to announce that our staff Heather has accepted a position elsewhere and will be greatly missed by all of us. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Just a little reminder, today was Claire’s 1st official day. She is the two-year-old little girl with a lot of energy and spunk. Please take a moment and help me welcome her one more time to the Sun, Stars & Moon family.

Lastly, I would like to share that very soon the adoption of my youngest son Cameron Anthony Jones will be finalized within the next month. We have been truly blessed by him coming into our lives.

Have a great week at work parents and your kids and I will be learning new things and having fun!!
